My newest shape is part of something I've been quietly developing for the past 6 months

• I launched the old surfboard Upcycling program a couple of years ago. It’s definitely been successful. We get quite a few shortboards donated and these are harder to upcycle because in general there’s not that much foam to begin with. So, I launched a solution: we now upcycle shortboards into custom smaller boards for the kiddos - The Grom Board Upcycling Program. This specific shape is what we make.

The Grom Special is a very specific shape design with input from one of my good mates and local pro surf coach Wagner DeAbreu.

Designed for kids ages 5-13 a d weights approximately 40-90lbs

It Features lower overall rocker for a faster board. A wider nose and maximizing foam up under the chest helps lighter riders with paddle power and getting into the waves early which is crucial when they are learning.

Behind center the board narrows strategically with a subtle side cut and winged tail swallow tail. This helps narrow the tail for smaller feet, the swallow tail puts more rail in the water which increases lift, drive and stability. Thing wing is placed in line with the trailing edge of the front fins which serves as the perfect pivot point making turns easier.

The bottom contour is a tried and true deep single concave to double through the fins w slight vee off the tail which also helps increase lift and drive. The double with vee helps with better rail to rail transitions and carving.
